These days, it seems like there’s no shortage of new, interesting dental procedures available. One that’s getting used more and more often is sedation dentistry. This is still a procedure that not everyone knows a whole lot about.
Today, we’re going to walk you through what sedation dentistry entails, and why you may want to consider using it during your next visit with a dentist.
What is it?
As its name implies, sedation dentistry is merely any dental procedure performed on a patient who’s been sedated. Dr. Sid Tucker and Dr. Raphael Csillag might recommend that you consider sedation dentistry if you’re particularly anxious about an appointment, or if there’s going to be some discomfort involved in the procedure.
How does it work?
Sedation dentistry works on three different levels. The first is by using laughing gas, or nitrous oxide, to gently help you relax. The second is a deeper level of relaxation that puts you right on the edge of consciousness. The last knocks you out completely.
When do I need it?
You can ask any of us here at Hudson Valley Periodontics and Implantology in Bardonia, New York, when we’d recommend sedation dentistry. Generally, we will tell you it’s a good idea if you’ve expressed, or shown signs of, anxiety surrounding dental procedures before.
