Your teeth are precious. They help you chew your food, speak clearly, and brighten the world with your smile. However, some foods can really damage their structure and appearance. In the aftermath of Halloween and half price candy bags, Hudson Valley Periodontics and Implantology in Bardonia, New York, encourages you to steer clear of these candies:

Sticky and Chewy Candy: The chances of seeing a dentist munch on toffee and other sticky candies are fairly equal to seeing them munch on a dinosaur. That’s because we know that the high sugar content sticking to your molars can be a nightmare. Bad bacteria will feast all day on these food particles, turning them into acid and wearing away your enamel.

Hard Candy: The only thing worse than having candy stuck to your teeth is chipping off a piece of your tooth because you bit into a piece of hard candy. Be extremely careful when chewing these candies. If you suck on them instead, it’s not much better for you. The sugar will dissolve into your saliva and spread all over your mouth, feeding bacteria everywhere.

Sour Candy: Sour candy contains high levels of acid which can immediately break down your tooth enamel. Brushing your teeth right afterwards won’t help either, because it will likely just damage your enamel even more by spreading the acid around your mouth with the toothbrush.
